CEO Jolla, whose Finnish name is Jussi Hurmola, gave a rather long interview to GigaOM, in which he described his company's plans for projects based on MeeGo. In particular, he promised that a smartphone with a new system will be presented to the public at the end of this year and said that the device will not be on the market by itself - the company intends to create a whole MeeGo ecosystem - an app store, cloud services - without which any long the existence of the operating system is simply impossible.
What will be the new system and the new device with it? Jussi Hurmola says that he would like to see modern smartphone flexibly customizable (individualistic machines) and generally get away from the usual custom paradigm of opening and closing applications.
Jolla intends to support ex-MeeGo not only on mobile devices, but also on the whole range of consumer equipment - from car dashboards to televisions, while the fragmentation of the system itself will not occur through the use of QML. Also, given the trend set by other systems, much attention will be paid to HTML5 applications, since all Jolla competitors - webOS, Tizen, Firefox OS - build their ecosystem just by using the HTML5 + JS + CSS stack.
It is also curious that China and Europe are primarily referred to as the priority markets for the distribution of MeeGo devices.
