I have no doubt that a lot of people now hate the new Apple cards. Yes, this is not so applicable to our country, where people are very fond of “Yandex.Maps” (except that the absence of hiking routes darkens a little), and, therefore, they didn’t particularly use Google’s.
But think about one small fact. Namely, think about the market of 1.3 billion people and the "second" economy of the world. Yes, I am now talking about China with its great firewall.

Here are two examples of places that are not located in the center of Chinese cities. Google Card ↓

But the card at "Apple" ↓

Here you and ATMs, and restaurants, and shops, and museums - is not it, almost with accuracy, on the contrary, repeats the current situation with the maps in some places more civilized (in the sense of freedoms) countries? What Apple is being scolded for now.
And if you consider how many new features were added to iOS 6 for the Chinese market (a separate part of the presentation was even devoted to this part), then an obvious conclusion suggests itself, if you think about profits and a larger-scale occupation of the new market.
Addition: “Google”, sooner or later, will release a separate application of its cards and most of the current “moans” will cease after that (or rather, will be transferred to another plane: the ability to assign an application by default, as they now say about the email client and browser). But the billions of profits in the Chinese market will not disappear anywhere. Profit!
There is already possible and argue with the fact that many say "If Jobs would not have this happened." Are you sure about that now?
