The Ubuntu version, which is due to appear in October of this year, will display ads for Amazon products. The display mechanism will be approximately as follows - a search on a computer using Unity Dash, in addition to the search results themselves, will also show products relevant to the search query.
One of the key developers (Director of Technology) of Ubuntu Oliver Ries (Oliver Ries) in the Ubuntu Development mailing list for developers honestly admits that the company thus began the monetization of its operating system:
If a user clicks on a product and purchases it, then a percentage of the sale of the product will go to the needs of the [Ubuntu] project (just as it does when executing a request through the search bar built into Firefox) ... We believe that this earnings model is a good method helping developers and investing in the continued growth of Ubuntu.
About 40 more sites are planned to be integrated as advertising providers. Approximately in the same way the music store in Ubuntu will work, where you can legally purchase music. Search through Dash will include the section Suggested Music , clicking on which will trigger the album cover with preview tracks that can be listened to and purchased. ')
