Intel showed six new UMPC on the Menlow platform

With the release of the new platform called Menlow, Intel has unambiguously stated its goal to firmly settle in the ultra mobile PC market (UMPC). And recently, the company showed just six new UMPC, developed on the basis of Menlow. Five products are created by Taiwanese companies (BenQ, Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Inventec and Asustek Computer) and one by Finnish Elektrobit.

The Menlow platform, which will hit the market in early 2008, will include a Silverthor 45-nm processor, characterized by a record-low (according to the developer) power consumption and Poulsbo system logic with Wi-Fi controllers and 802.16e-2005 (mobile WiMAX version) on board .
It seems (and Intel declares this openly) in the near future we will have an interesting market struggle between the UMPC and the already familiar notebooks.
