LAYWOO-D3: a new FDM material that can print wood with annual rings
New material for 3D printers:
Inventor Kai Parthy has developed a new material that can print a “tree” on RepRap 3D printers. This LAYWOO-D3 material is a composite of recycled wood and a safe polymer binder. The thermal resistance of the material is similar to PLA and they can be printed in the range of temperatures from 175 ° C to 250 ° C. After printing, it looks like wood and smells like wood. Changing the temperature, you can even print the annual rings like on a tree. At 180 ° C, the output is a light shade, and at 245 ° C - dark. Printed object can be cut, sanded and painted. ')
Specifications: - almost zero deformation - during printing it is possible to make the surface rough, smooth or alternate - you can print annual rings - well sticks to the platform, does not require a heated platform - recommended extruder temperature - from 185 ° C (for light color) to 230 ° C (dark color) - material is 40% wood
At the moment, this revolutionary material is available as a 3mm bar in small quantities on Ebay . The German company RepRap GmbH also sells in its stores. It goes in small bays of 500g as shown in the picture below. - weight: 0.5 kg - size: 30 cm × 30 cm × 5 cm - price: € 16.76 (€ 19.94 including VAT)
Bar 1.75mm is not yet available, but there are plans.
