Crash tests of mobile phones marked "moisture protection". Part 1

image

As everyone knows, mobile phones are not designed to work in conditions of high humidity and especially under water. For these purposes, there are special waterproof covers and covers. But lately, mobile phone models began to appear on store shelves, in which it is written in black and white: " waterproof ". Or rather, special markings such as ip65 or ip68 are applied. These figures indicate how much and what kind of aggressive environment this or that device will transfer.

There is a good saying: trust, but verify! The GTV channel decided to test the real capabilities of these phones to counteract the water element and took several educational programs from the Hi-Testing cycle.

For the crash test, we took 2 control and 4 phones marked "moisture protection":
  1. MTS-140 (control)
  2. iPhone 2G (control)
  3. Sonim XP3300 Force
  4. Samsung Galaxy xCover S5690
  5. Sony xperia go
  6. Fly OD1

See the first 3 tests under the cut.

The following should be noted:

But the iPhone and Sony did not allow us to fully implement our plan with indicators: their batteries can be reached only if the devices themselves are disassembled. And as we said, we decided not to break the tightness of gadgets. On Sony, the indicator was pasted under the decorative cover.

Test number 1: Aquarium

Test number 1: Aquarium Taking a small aquarium with a depth of 40 cm, we immerse all the phones in it one by one. By actively leaving the bubbles from the control apparatus can be said: the water in them is already waist-deep. This is confirmed when you try to call them.

Test # 2: Pool

Test # 2: Pool To carry out this test, the usual aquarium will not get off and we filled the children's pool with water. A two-meter transparent flask was installed in the center, inside which even a laptop could fit.

Test # 3: Charcot's Douche

Test # 3: Charcot's Douche Here we will focus on the stream of water under the pressure of escaping from the water "gun". This jet is stronger than tropical rain. The third test is called “Charcot’s Douche” and imitates bathing with a phone under the shower or a walk in the pouring rain.

In a week we will finish the installation of three more tests.
