Acer canceled last-minute smartphone launch with Alibaba Group
The planned joint launch of Acer and the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group of the CloudMobile A800 smartphone was canceled at the last moment. This smartphone was supposed to work on Aliyun OS, based on Linux and developed by the cloud technology division of Alibaba Group.
The launch was to take place on Thursday evening in Shanghai, but the journalists who came to the presentation were surprised to find that the event was canceled by Acer “due to internal reasons”.
A spokesperson for Alibaba said that Acer received a warning from Google that if Acer launches this project, all cooperation regarding Android and all technical support will be terminated.
