I remember Habr enthusiastically received the news about the purchase of Palm by HP. Unfortunately, nothing good came of it. Yes, the source code of the webOS platform was discovered, the HP TouchPad tablet and the less well-known HP Veer smartphone (presented on February 9, 2011, according to
Wikipedia ) were released. The smartphone was also based on the webOS software platform. But, a couple of months after the release of these devices, the company management recognized them as commercially unprofitable.
Technically, these are very good devices, it is not for nothing that some gadget lovers are hunting for TouchPad tablets. But the enthusiasm of ordinary users, these devices have not caused. Maybe the campaign was wrong, maybe there was not enough advertising. In general, the production turned, and with webOS still think what to do.

But now things can change, because information has been received on HP's intention to re-launch the release of smartphones. At the same time, the information came not from anonymous sources, as usual. Information provided by Meg Whitman, CEO of HP. And yes, back in 2011, the same Meg Whitman
stated that perhaps in 2012-2013, tablets based on webOS will be released again (there will be modifications based on Windows 8).
As far as you can understand, smartphones will not be champions in terms of performance; these will be low-end devices “sharpened” for developing countries. There are no more details about the device under development, unfortunately.

Via
thevergePS It seems that the new HP smartphone will be based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, leaving webOS somewhere aside. At least, slashgear journalists managed to
get the results of the GLBenchmark
test of the new device. And yes, the product code name is Bender (estimated configuration details are Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960. 2 core Krait@1.5GHz, Adreno 225)!
