IPad-based Telepresence Robot

Telepresence robots are still exotic, thanks in part to the high price and rather ridiculous appearance. Double Robotics was able to create an elegant and inexpensive robot based on a regular iPad tablet. The chassis has two wheels and works on the principle of the Segway electro scooter. The telescopic bar on which the tablet is mounted can change the height from one to one and a half meters. The total weight of the structure is seven kilograms, the price is two and a half (or exactly two in the case of pre-order) thousands of dollars without a tablet.

You can control the robot using another iOS device or via a browser. Batteries last for 8 hours of active work. When the robot is stationary, it releases special stops, which allows you to turn off the "vestibular apparatus" and save electricity.

These robots can be used for teleconferencing, online learning. He can rent on an hourly basis - you can walk through the museum at the other end of the world. Such a robot will not spoil the interior and is unlikely to make much laugh at others, such as Willow Garage Texai, who played in the Big Bang Theory series.
