Surely many of you remember
the "Toaster" soul
conferences with crispy toasts and jam. For various reasons, we suspended the holding of these events, however, the rich history of the “Toaster” did not end there. Moreover, she received an unexpected continuation.

From today, “
Toaster ” has become a full-fledged Q & A service for developers, since the eponymous section on “Habré” has long been closely linked to the site. Due to the closed nature of the resource, the question and answer section was doomed to inadequate development. Quite a few volunteers could and wanted to answer this or that question, but could not do it, because for this they had to go through a procedure comparable to obtaining a Schengen visa. The same can be said about those who wanted to ask, but could not do so due to the lack of a full account on Habré.
With the launch of "Toaster" everything has changed. Now anyone can ask a question about programming and get the appropriate answer. "Toaster" is a service with open registration, anyone can use it. If you already have an account on "Habré", you can log in using it, using our new
authorization center TM ID .

"Toaster" is in many ways similar to the Q & A section of "Habra". The same questions, the same answers, the same clarifications and solutions. Although something has changed. For example, now there is no “question rating” (for which users had previously voted), since the rating of a question is not fully understood when viewed in detail, unlike the rating of a post, for example. It is much more objective, in our opinion, to count the number of users who have expressed a substantive interest in the issue. Therefore, to the left of each question is an indicator, the numerical value of which represents the number of subscribers to the question. Thus, we have found some kind of substitute for rating and likes, having introduced a subscription to the activity in question at the same time to this mechanism. Having expressed interest in the question, the user not only increases his interest, but also subscribes to future updates to the question (new answers, clarifications and solutions).

So that on the service from the first day life was in full swing, we moved there all the questions published earlier on Habré, including clarifications, answers and comments to them. In total, the published questions were patched by more than 30 thousand tags. We completely reworked this tag database, stuck together doubles, cleaned up and put things in order there. The result was 8,000 tags, which formed the current system of categorizing questions on the "Toaster".
At the moment, "Toaster" is in beta testing. For this period, part of the service functions (creating tags, editing other people's questions and answers, pasting duplicates, rating) will not be available for use. At the end of testing, we will make the appropriate announcement.
As already mentioned above, “Toaster” works through our new authorization center
TM ID . You can read more about this service in a separate post. A little later we will add all our
other services to the authorization center.
