Pictures move to new interface

In early April, we launched a new Yandex.Kartinok interface in experimental form . During the time that the experiment lasted, we managed to better understand how successful the proposed interface solutions were and what needs to be improved.

One of the first changes introduced just a few weeks after launch was an increase in the number of images on the results page. Gradually increasing the number of downloaded images, we found that, as a rule, this does not lead to a significant slowdown of the interface. In the end, we switched to automatically loading images while scrolling (scrolling) the page down. Thus, users view more images in less time and quickly find a suitable picture.

At the same time, the search line is always at hand. Now it is fixed above the search results, and users will not have to scroll up the page for a long time to set the next search query.

We also increased the distance between the images and aligned them to the right, to make it easier to navigate in a large volume of the found.

Advanced search filters are no longer hidden in the search box. Initially, we assumed that the most important thing was to show as many images as possible. In the course of the experiment, it turned out that for those users who often used filters, the solution we proposed was not very convenient. Therefore, we have arranged filters and some interface settings to the left of the search results. And they were pleasantly surprised: they were understandable and in demand not only for those who often used them before, but also for those who used them extremely rarely or did not notice at all.

After weighing and evaluating all the data and personal feelings, we realized that the move can no longer be postponed. We hope that you will also find it convenient and pleasant to look for and view images in the new Yandex.Kartinok interface.
