Hi habr!

Destiny brought me to the windy city of Chicago at a rather attractive event -
Cloud Connect Chicago 2012 . What can be an attractive conference on the other side of the earth? The fact that you can see, listen and meet people whose experience inspires confidence. To adopt this experience is why I flew here.
So what is the conference about? As the name implies, we are talking about clouds and everything connected with them, namely:
- Clouds and security (hottest topic)
- Private, public and hybrid clouds
- Infrastructure
- Application Readiness
- Application Design and Architecture
- Mobile clouds
- … and much more
With my first post I want to initialize a chain of reports about the conference and interesting things that I learned.
Well, let's start.
')
The first day
Today on Cloud Connect there were 2 series of seminars on all kinds of cloud topics. Each seminar took 3 and a quarter hours. At the same time 4 workshops were held. The first part of the seminars was on topics:
- Amazon Web Services: Fundamentals & Best Practices
- Big Data: Fundamentals to Best Practices
- Cloud Crash Course: Foundations for On-Demand Computing
- Cloud Security: Best Practices for Risk Management
Unfortunately, I wandered the first series of seminars between reports - I did not see anything interesting for myself. They told elementary things about Amazon, and even so that I myself could better tell. There was a lot of terminology for developers in the bigdat, the sysadmins did not understand. Cloud security was not a cloud at all - they talked about booting with security chips onboard the motherboard and about Intel TXT and McAfee technology. Maybe someone is interested, but I do not really.
However, having got to the fourth seminar with the theme Cloud Crash Course: Foundations for On-Demand Computing, I realized that this is it, and finally it became interesting. And I regret that I did not go to this seminar right away.
Dave Roberts (Dave Roberts, VP, Evangelism, ServiceMesh, Inc. @sandhillstrat) talked about how to build a cloud computing policy on the business side. The seminar was fascinating and one of the examples was centralization in communism:
The problems of IT departments related to cloud technologies and methods for solving these very problems were described.
After the first series was followed by lunch. By the way, yes ... never before have I seen such a lunch at conferences - I ate too much!

After lunch, there were 4 more workshops on topics:
- Building Private Clouds: From "If" to "How"
- Cloud Advanced Course: Building Reliable & Scalable Public Cloud Applications
- Cloud Performance: Guide to Tackling Cloud Latency
- Navigating PaaS: Your Road Map for Application Development
And this time I hit the target the first time -
Cloud Performance: Guide to Tackling Cloud Latency - became an oh-very interesting place for discussions and discussions.
The main topic of the seminar was speed in the clouds. Considered all sorts of optimization and all that is possible. It was also suggested that if we hire all the speakers of this seminar, we will get the perfect service that will work super fast!
Here are some photos from the seminar:

Well, sobstvenno and everything, these and ended the first day of Cloud Connect Chicago 2012. It was quite interesting, but I expect even more interesting reports from the following days. I hope in my tomorrow's post will be more delight =)
