FBI talks about face recognition

The FBI announced that they were ready to spend a billion dollars on creating a new type of face recognition database that would allow them to identify suspects using video from surveillance cameras.

Technically, the Next-Generation Identification program (NGI) will be an update for the fingerprint database. Government organizations will begin to use the person to identify themselves along with other biometric data: DNA, voice identification, iris scans, etc. In other words, if you have problems with the law, the police will not only take fingerprints, but create a comprehensive record that allows you to be isolated from the crowd, wherever you go.

The FBI claims that NGI will be ready by 2014. Now while the system is working in pilot mode and can only identify individuals with a criminal past, but other types of photos, for example from a driver's license, will be added to the system by the time it is ready to be launched.

Although lawyers are alarmed that the possibility of secretly tracking people is interfering with people's lives, the FBI says the program is legal under the provisions of the US Privacy Law.
