While Delphi fans and haters break spears about the recently announced version of XE3, the guys from the
Lazarus team on August 29
announced Lazarus 1.0.
For those who do not know, Lazarus is an IDE and a set of classes for FreePascal that is emulated by Delphi. The project was opened back in 1999 by the efforts of three developers: Cliff Baeseman, Shane Miller and Michael A. Hess. The story is described in more detail in the
Wiki .
The list of declared supported platforms is impressive:
- Windows : 98, 2k, XP, Vista, 7, 32 and 64bit
- FreeBSD / Linux : gtk 2.8 and qt4.5, 32 and 64bit
- Mac OS X : 10.4, LCL is only 32bit, non-LCL can be 64bit
This release of Lazarus uses FreePascal version 2.6.0, and a full list of changes is available in the project's
Wiki .

As for my personal opinion, of course, Lazarus is not as perfect and licked as we would like. But! This is really a workhorse. This is a really actively developing project. And, probably, the only analogue of the cross-platform development environment for Pascal.
PS In view of the absence of the Pascal hub, mentioned in the Delphi hub.
