The state legislature of California
passed a law authorizing the use of unmanned vehicles on state roads. Before the first licenses are issued, Governor Jerry Brown must sign his name under the law, and the road transport department must develop detailed rules governing the operation of autonomous vehicles. In neighboring Nevada, Google
received the first license for unmanned vehicles in May of this year. Legalization of autonomous transport is also being considered in Florida, Arizona, Oklahoma and Hawaii.
Alan Loventhal - one of the California senators - after a trip on an unmanned vehicle said in an interview with Reuters that, despite some minor flaws, the computer drives the car better than he does.
More than a million people worldwide die on the roads every year. More people get serious injuries. According to The Economist, about 90% of all accidents occur due to human error. Google unmanned cars have already driven about 500,000 kilometers
without a single accident .
