Where do cybersquatters live?

The World Intellectual Property Organization has published interesting statistics - data on the location of the defendants on complaints about the illegal seizure of a domain under the UDRP procedure, i.e. accused of cybersquatting.

Of course, these data do not claim complete objectivity. Firstly, not all complaints about cybersquatting are satisfied (although there are most of them). Secondly, cybersquatters may indicate deliberately false data about themselves. Thirdly, it is not known whether the statistics on domain seizure complaints in national domain zones were included in the statistics and how many such complaints were. Finally, complaints do not reach all cybersquatters. For most companies, contacting WIPO is an extreme measure. However, the information received is very curious.

Most cybersquatters in the United States and in China.

For comparison - the statistics on the location of the plaintiffs who complained about cybersquatters.

Also note that, according to WIPO, the scale of cybersquatting for the first half of this year increased by 11% compared with the second half of 2011 (WIPO received these periods of time 1764 and 1584 complaints, respectively.)

But this statistics, again, is inaccurate. In addition to the factors mentioned above, it does not take into account the increase in the number of registered domains. If we correlate the number of domains and the number of complaints about cybersquatting, it turns out that the scope of cybersquatting, on the contrary, decreases. The fact that in one cybersquatting complaint you can specify several domains at once was not taken into account in the calculation. Also a large impact on the statistics has the activities of large firms, such as Lego or Google, which can submit several dozen or even hundreds of complaints.
