Formula E: announced a series of races involving electric vehicles

Next year, as announced by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), will debut a new racing series called Formula E, which will be attended exclusively by electric vehicles.

Similarities with Formula 1 can not be overlooked. 20 riders representing 10 teams will compete for the world championship. It is assumed, by analogy with other competitions, that the most successful teams will receive grants next year (for example, for transportation).

Open single cars participating in competitions must comply with strict regulations: have a minimum weight of 780 kg (including driver's weight), necessary aerodynamic qualities, a certain safe construction of the driver's cabin, etc. Details on this set of rules can be found online in a specially prepared by the Federation PDF document: www.fia.com/en-GB/Documents/eoi-formula-e.pdf .

Racing electric cars are expected to be able to start, accelerating in three seconds to 100 km / h. The current cars participating in Formula 1 is required to achieve this speed for half a second less. Each race will consist of four races of approximately 15 minutes, and in the intervals between races riders will be able to recharge the batteries.

An idea of how strongly electric racers look like their gasoline counterparts is given by the Formulec prototype EF01.

Competitions will be held in major cities around the world - where it is, is not yet known. Several Grand Prix tentatively held early next year, and in 2014 the World Cup will be held officially. Until then, the organizer will have to resolve several issues, and most importantly - to assemble teams.
