Today, the General Director of the Scientific-Practical Conference on the basis of the Technopark of NRNU MEPI Andrei Starikovsky showed the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin the first Russian tablet computer.
The model was named “RoMOS”, the same name will be the operating system (protected Russian mobile operating system). In fact, RoMOS is nothing more than the well-known OS from Google - Android. Google Play will be missing in the delivery, according to Starikovsky, it will be replaced by its own store of safe applications.
"The operating system has all the functionality of the Android operating system, but does not contain the unofficial functions of sending personal user data to Google headquarters," said Andrei Starikovsky.
The device will be equipped with a 10-inch screen, Wi-Fi support, as well as they will not forget about the wireless communication module for working with cellular networks, whether it will be 3G networks or LTE unfortunately not mentioned.

Deliveries are planned to be organized in the military department with the possibility of using a computer in field conditions. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a tablet and an ordinary Russian citizen. Starikovsky said that the main functions of the tablet will be data encryption, storage of crypto keys, terrain maps and GLONASS navigation.
“There will be two versions: state and military (shockproof, water resistant),” said Starikovsky.
The tablet is planned to be released by the end of 2012, at first the Ministry of Defense employees should become its main users. In the future, the tablet will enter the market at a price of
15,000 rubles for the minimum configuration (without 3G \ LTE).
A new tablet will be produced in Russia. “Some of the components will be imported, and the assembly will be Russian based on the TsNIIEEISU (the head institute of the Ministry of Defense).”
Starikovsky's statement very much reminds the story of the first Russian smartphone -
MTS Glonass 945 . Time will tell whether the new tablet initiative will suffer the same fate as the smartphone. I hope "RoMOS" will not be the next rebranded Chinese tablet.
