On August 31 at the Moscow office of Yandex, a scientific and technical seminar will be held on the topic “Methods of analyzing user behavior and their use in web search and for recommending content”.
The speaker is Aris Gionis, senior researcher at Yahoo!’s Barcelona Research Department, who received a Ph.D. from Computer Science at Stanford. He studies data analysis algorithms and web applications.
Aris Gionis will talk about various tasks solved by analyzing user behavior on websites and in social media. The focus is on solving problems related to searching on the Internet and recommending content.

The presenter will touch upon the topic of search suggestions, especially for rare requests. The new approach is based on highlighting the query templates for which you need to make a hint, and generate hints by establishing semantic links between these templates, rather than the queries themselves.
You will learn about the problem of extracting useful tips from the Yahoo! Answers and their issuance in response to relevant search queries. Finally, Aris will talk about the news recommendation system based on information about users from various microblogging services, such as Twitter.
The seminar will be held in English, beginning at 19:00. Registration is required to attend the seminar.
