40 million installations of Web Of Trust

Web Of Trust (WOT) - reached a new milestone in the number of installations - 40 million . The company's technology is based on processing user opinions about sites and helps them find reliable sites. The turn was also achieved thanks to the recent integration of the WOT extension into the browser of the largest Internet company, Mail.ru.

WOT is a free browser extension designed by two students from the University of Technology in Tampere, Finland. In August 2008, the number of installations reached 1 million, and already in March 2010 the 10 million bar was overcome. In 2011 - 20 million, and 30 million in January 2012. “WOT relies on its users who value millions of sites based on their experience,” said Markus Suomi , executive director of Web of Trust. “The more users there are with us, the more efficient and valuable the service is for the entire community. That's why his growth is important to us. ”
The WOT tool helps users find reliable websites by displaying an icon in traffic light colors next to links. A certain color means the degree of confidence in the site.

“Trust” is calculated based on the opinions of millions of users and information from additional technical sources. You can become a WOT user by downloading an add-on to your browser (supported by Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera).

Reputational ratings protect users around the world from specific problems that classic antiviruses cannot protect against: questionable site content, suspicious or unreliable online stores, potential leaks of personal data, and “not for children” sites. Information from WOT is used today by companies such as Facebook, Mail.ru, Fotostrana, GlobalSign, DuckDuckGo and others.
