How to check freelancer for “lice”?

When communicating with my friends, I recently come across the fact that very often, when they act as customers and look for performers among freelancers, they come across a problem:

How to pay a prepayment to a freelancer (almost all freelancers work on a prepaid basis) and not get on a scammer?

So, as a part of fate, I also often have to face the choice of a performer, then I offer my 10 points of checking a freelancer for “lice”.

So, you should do the following:

1. Check WM-purse, if a person asks to make an advance payment on it. If the wallet is anonymous or formal and God forbid registered until 2-3 days ago - a good cause for concern. A freelancer who has nothing to hide from the customer will make a Personal Certificate for himself - it turns out not for long - within 1 day and costs, if my memory serves me 30 cu - at least it was worth it when I received it. You will need a passport and a photocopy of relevant pages, a photocopy of the identification code, etc.

2. A man talks a lot about what kind of professional he is, how he makes projects and everything in a similar style.

3. Refuses to work through a “secure transaction” or “risk-free transaction” of freelance exchanges.

4. It has an email address on public free mail servers of the type vasya@mail.ru, sergey@list.ru, biznes2002@yahoo.com. A self-respecting freelancer (and successful) can easily afford to buy a domain and have personal mail on it.

5. Does not have a personal website with a portfolio.

6. Checks on Google or Yandex by its nickname, icq number, first name, last name give information about problems with this person at work.

7. A person has negative reviews on his WMID (if such exists).

8. Refuses to show his portfolio or explain what and in which project he personally did.

9. In communication, causes a negative, not literate, too much slang, Padone's style of communication.

10. If a freelancer is found on the labor exchange by the type of free-lance.ru or weblancer.net and has no rating.

The list can be continued, but if at least a couple of points out of 10 above were justified - this is the reason not to pay the prepayment.

In general, a good style of working with freelancers is to use the “secure transaction service” or “risk-free transaction”, respectively, from weblancer.net and free-lance.ru. Even if the freelancer fails the project - then the maximum that you can lose is your time, but the money will be saved and come back.

Additions from DL1t :

You should not give a prepayment if the freelancer:

- Insists on e-mail as the only contact form, refuses to give a phone number or at least skype.
- being in the same city as the customer, refuses to meet in person, with excuses of the form “I see everything clearly,” “I am very busy, sorry”
- having only a brief description of the work, the freelancer immediately calls the total amount and terms, without requesting the full TK
