Zello: Turn the phone into a walkie-talkie

The current phones can do a lot, but remember the distant 2000s, when the phones had the PTT function (Push To Talk), one development team from St. Petersburg had the idea to transfer this function to the current phones.

Recently, I came across an interesting Zello service, I was very surprised that it wasn’t written about it, so I’m offering you an overview of the Zello.com “digital” radio service
')
PS I am in no way connected with the creators of the service, I just liked the service and because of this I decided to tell about it.

The Zello application emulates the work of a conventional radio, but via the Internet.

You can communicate with the selected user directly or through channels.

Channels resemble frequencies in a normal radio, if you are subscribed to a channel — you can hear all channel users and send your audio messages to the channel.

Channels are of two types:
- When everyone can talk and listen
- When only 1 user speaks and everyone else listens

In addition, the channels can be either open or with passwords (to enter the channel you need to know the password)

The service has applications for devices running: iOS and Android, BlackBerry devices are also supported.

Interestingly, the service works fine with an EDGE / GPRS internet connection.

For service, I see the following applications:
- Use as a classic radio when driving a car or walking in places where there is a network operator
- Transfer of emergency messages without the possibility of discussion
- Coordinating groups of people
- chat

For testing, the application has created a channel habrahabr.

And I learned about the application from a friendly resource from Boomburum .
