CTF for Stripe Application Developers

The online payment company Stripe launched an entertaining online competition today.

In the CTF version of Stripe, application developers will need to detect and attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in specially crafted web applications. The competition was launched yesterday, and in the first 6 hours 4,500 people registered. The competition will last a week. After that, the company plans to release the source code so that people can analyze it or run it themselves.

Stripe company itself is developing a system for accepting payments from credit cards in web applications. So it makes sense that the company is interested in helping developers to strengthen their security skills.

The company's president, Patrick Collison, said in an interview that large-scale hacks are very common nowadays. Yahoo !, Dropbox and LinkedIn are not the only ones that have encountered security vulnerabilities in the past few months. Collison emphasizes that developers are aware of the importance of security, but only a few get the experience they need. With a real attack, it will be too late.

To participate in the game, developers need to register on Stripe CTF . As soon as you sign up, you enter the game, which has eight levels. At the time of writing the news, the eighth level was overcome by only one person. The leaderboard shows the latest results of how the participants succeed in the game. Winners who have passed all levels will receive Stripe Web CTF T-shirts created specifically for the competition.
