Amazon Glacier: data storage of $ 0.01 for 1 GB per month
Today, Amazon Glacier launched a new project: long-term storage in the cloud at a low price of $ 0.01 for 1 GB per month. Ideal for storing backups and large archives, which do not need frequent access. Retrieving data from Glacier takes from 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
As everywhere in AWS, the user pays only for the amount of resources that he actually uses, no subscription fee. Downloading and extracting archives, status monitoring is possible through Amazon Glacier APIs. All files are automatically encrypted with AES 256 and duplicated in different data centers before APIs return SUCCESS response.
The commercial status of the service implies a number of contractual obligations that the provider assumes, so in this sense 1 cent is better than free. Amazon guarantees an average annual archive preservation of 99.999999999%; no single backup system will provide such reliability.
In Amazon Glacier, UPLOAD and RETRIEVAL requests cost $ 0.05 per 1000, LISTVAULTS, GETJOBOUTPUT, DELETE and all other requests are free. Extraction of data is also free within 5% of the average monthly storage volume, for exceeding the limit they take from $ 0.01 per gigabyte.

To cut off users who use the service for other purposes, for deleting data earlier than three months of storage, they also charge $ 0.03 per gigabyte. There are some other features, see the FAQ .
