I finished the online course
Algorithms: Design and Analysis, Part I at
coursera.orgIf you say that I am completely out of date - this is nothing to say. Moreover, in the event I am not so much on the material. He is on top, but it is difficult to surprise. And I am delighted with the format of the training itself, the quality of the preparation of materials and the online technology of the training.
In short.
The course lasts six weeks. For each week, about one and a half hours of video lectures are given, divided into episodes of 10-20 minutes. The video is interactive, and in some there are moments when it stops, and questions are offered to consolidate what has been heard. For each lecture there are two corresponding PDFs with slides: one with handwritten labels, which appear gradually during the video lecture with the lecturer's explanations, and the second with text typed in familiar fonts. You can watch the video as many times as you like. You can right in the browser, but you can download video files (although I’m not sure if interactive questions will work). There are English subtitles and a transcript. And the video that you watch in the browser has a mega opportunity - to change the viewing speed in the range from 0.5 to 1.5. When a lot of “bla-bla” starts, you can speed it up, for a while.

Also for each week is a list of theoretical questions and practical tasks. Questions should be answered, and for practice to write a program and what is required. There are restrictions on the number of attempts to surrender. The best answer given is taken into account.
There are no real restrictions on the time of delivery, but the answers and decisions submitted late (at the end of the week) will be evaluated with a 50% "discount", so if you want to get a certificate at the end, it is better to do everything on time.
At the end - the last test exam. It has a time limit of 3 hours. Therefore, it is worth choosing a time so that everything can be finished.
There are forums where course leaders appear along with students.
My personal subjective opinion that it would be possible to make the course a bit “more rigid”, but overall the load balance for the optional evening spending time a couple of times a week is wonderful.
Conclusion : I advise everyone. Of course, not this particular course (everyone’s interests are different), but technology as a whole.
I want to try the next
6.002x: Circuits and Electronics . I wonder what and how they will replace the practical classes online, without which electronics is impossible.
