The Ministry of Communications proposes to cancel domestic roaming in Russia

The Ministry of Communications is developing a new law “On Communications”, abolishing domestic roaming in Russia, which is not available in most other countries. This writes Lenta.ru with reference to Twitter Minister Nikolai Nikiforov.

According to the minister, the additional charge for long-distance calls will remain, but uniform tariffs will operate within the region regardless of from which subject of the federation the subscriber came. “For example, you live in Ulyanovsk, went to Kazan. In Kazan, you will be able to speak at local rates without roaming surcharges, ”wrote Nikiforov.

At the end of 2011, it was proposed to cancel intranet roaming, however, operators and the Ministry of Economic Development did not agree with this idea. Then opinions were expressed that this would lead to a sharp increase in tariffs.

The new law on communication will also allow subscribers to keep their old number when switching to another operator, and this service will be free. According to official estimates, the introduction of portable numbers will cost 12 billion rubles to market participants.
