Quite unexpectedly, they issued an invitation to the MODX Cloud beta. This is a widely advertised development of MODX Revolution with unprecedented possibilities. And in fact, advanced shared-hosting with a single control panel a bunch of sites on the cloud.
In the future, this will allow us not to be scattered, but to centrally update sites, back up and just enjoy working with clients.

While Cloud is in the state of closed beta, but I managed to have a look - and here is a review (there are a lot of clickable pictures in the post).
Control Panel
The cloud control panel is located at
dashboard.modxcloud.com .
The login window reminds us very much of
MODX Revolution , and this is not casual. The cloud works exclusively with Revo,
there is not and will not be Evolution support .
')
The control panel looks very nice, as in MODX taken. It is written on
ExtJS 4.0.7 , so, there is no denial of the “slow” ExtJS. Everything works smartly and smoothly.
The main menu consists of 3 items:
Home is the main section. On it you get after login. It contains a log of recent events, selected clouds and news.
Clouds - a section of cloud management. In the terminology of this system, the cloud has one site. Immediately created
test1.bezumkinru.modxcloud.com , about him a little later.
Vault - storage. Very interesting thing. All snapshots and backups of all your clouds are here. The difference between them is that snapshot removes an image that you can use to create a new cloud. A backup is for recovery only.
There is also a user profile, notifications and credit card details.
Cloud

So, one cloud is one installation of MODX Revolution. After a lightning-fast installation, you get a cloud with some properties:
- You are given a service, cloud name, such as c0067.paas3.tx.modxcloud.com .
- Normal name, such as test1.bezumkinru.modxcloud.com . You can not assign your names yet - the cloud is still in beta.
- SSH / SFTP access to the server.
- Snapshots and backups. Schedule not noticed.
- Monitoring Also, still in its infancy. Charts are clearly for beauty - there are no units of measurement, no time.
- MODX installation upgrade
As you can see, there are enough opportunities to organize the pleasant work of your sites right now.
Clouds can even be transferred to other accounts! .
Server
They give access to the server via SSH / SFTP. There is no FTP,
Apache2, I also did not notice -
Nginx 1.2.2 works, probably in conjunction with
php5-fpm . In general, I have nothing to please the conservatives, everything looks in the spirit of
this note .
The server itself, apparently, is spinning on
Debian Squeeze , uname -a gives:
/paas/c0067/home $ uname -a Linux paas3.tx.modxcloud.com 2.6.32-5-amd64
Everything is closed tightly, there is nothing to see. The root for the user is his directory, there is no access above. Midnight Commander is also not - sorry.
Apache2 says in favor of the complete lack of it:
/paas/c0067/home $ cat ./nginx_rewrites.conf location / { try_files $uri $uri/ @modx-rewrite; }/
That is, the rules of rewright are for Nginx, .htaccess is not needed by anyone. Hello to redirect masters via a web server, not plugins!
Site
Absolutely ordinary MODX Revolution 2.2.4, no features. Most of all I was interested in speed, so I put a few packages, type design and drove
loadimpact.com
It is clear that the site is empty, there is no load and no complex snippets. But this is good - we see that the platform itself does not slow down - and then it’s up to the programmer.
The admin panel is clear, everything is bright, no brakes.
Conclusion
This is just a first look. For the second, more attentive, you need to raise a fully working project and drive it there for a month or two, with backups, skins, loads, etc. I think it will be after the opening of the cloud in working condition - I have several sites that will immediately move there.
The potential of the platform is huge. I can not remember even the case that CMS / CMF grew into a hosting platform, and even so friendly! Nobody is going to throw Revolution either, because he is the main workhorse of the project.
However, remember that MODX Cloud, in fact - a fancy shared hosting. Not according to resources, but according to logic. It does not replace dedicated servers and VPS / VDS - you cannot reboot it, or put your software on the server (for now, in any case), or fine-tune Nginx.
But to launch business cards, shops, blogs, personal pages into work is easy and simple!
I am sure that this solution will save a huge number of non-advanced MODX Revolution users who roam around the curve hosting in search of speed and convenience.
It remains only to wait for the announcement of prices.
PS Smart people, tell me how to align the pictures in the center on Habré? And in the table and the align page does not help. Still wondering how to remove the border from the tables?
