The attackers have encrypted the hospital database, demanding a ransom

In general, the fact that now most modern organizations (including municipal ones) are switching to a number, there are many advantages. One of these drawbacks is the likelihood of intruders access to private and private data of patients. And it already happens. For example, in the Surgeons of Lake County hospital located in one of the towns of Illinois, USA, the attackers used a new money-generating scheme.

A team of intruders climbed onto the server of this very medical institution, without even hiding it. Instead, the hackers encrypted all the data that was stored on the server and demanded a ransom from the doctors for the right to access their own data. Doctors, without thinking twice, turned off the server, and turned to law enforcement agencies.

Unfortunately, the results of the doctors' actions remained unknown. It is not clear whether the issue was resolved positively for the hospital.

But this is not the first such case. Over the past years, news about hackers who have somehow tried to cash in on data from various medical institutions have appeared several times. Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Probably, the cases that did not become known are many times larger than those that were described in the media pages. Not only information security experts, but also physicians themselves are increasingly talking about the danger of such cases.

After all, one can only imagine how much money criminals can earn if they start using data from various kinds of venereal and drug treatment clinics and other similar institutions for their own purposes. Probably, the ransom will be demanded not only from hospital staff, but also from patients, some of whom will be willing to pay any money, only so that the history of the disease remains unknown to relatives / employers / voters.
