Microsoft and New York Police will experience a crime tracking system

Remember, there was such a film “Minority Opinion”, where policemen deal with crimes in a radical way - look into the future with the help of a special category of people, and thus prevent crime. Criminals are punished before the crime itself was committed. Despite the development of modern technologies, now the implementation of such a project is impossible (if only because of the absence of those telepaths from the film). But a crime tracking system is already under development. The project participants are Microsoft and the New York Police Department.

The task of the system being developed is not only to prevent crimes (if possible, of course), but also to react quickly to the crime committed. This system, using different technologies, monitors possible attempts to violate the law and the crimes themselves in real time. When a threat is detected, the system informs about it (the threat can be very different - strange baggage, forgotten suitcase, activity of criminals, fixation of the wanted car number).

As for the system itself, it uses 3,000 police cells, various sensors, a police database (including crime history, regional data, etc.), terrain mapping in real time, license plate readers, and so on. All this works with a single goal - an analysis of the situation and a warning about a possible violation.

As always, there are already statements about the need to use such a system to prevent terrorist attacks. The system will be used not only by the police, but also by other organizations and agencies. The project itself was called the Domain Awareness System. Of course, it is claimed that the system will be used only with the best intentions. But we all know that lined with good intentions.

It may well be that all this will gradually be introduced in other cities, subject to positive tests, first in the United States and then in other countries.

And yes, another interesting point. For his consent to participate in the project, the New York City Police Department will receive 30% of revenues from the Domain Awareness System sales by Microsoft in the future.
