Steam will go beyond the gaming market

According to the latest Valve statement, their software distribution service will go beyond the gaming application market and will now offer a much wider selection of software.

The new Steam will offer all the same benefits as for the games present in the Steam store:

• Easy application installation
• Automatic update
• The ability to save the work done in the Steam Cloud.

The launch of the updated service is scheduled for September 5.

Such a move by Valve to put Steam in one line with products such as the Apple App Store and the Canonical Ubuntu Software Center will be a good competition for the Microsoft Windows 8 Store.

I sincerely hope that Linux users will also get these features in the Steam client for Linux.
