About a month ago, I was personally approached by the leader of a group of enthusiasts
MajorDevTeam , a Russian group of developers, whose goal is to unite Linux programmers who are not indifferent to the fate of the two left by the creators of MeeGo and webOS. The purpose of such an appeal was quite simple and expected - to highlight in the most authoritative IT community in RuNet (what Habr is) about the very existence of such a project and thus, possibly, get all interested in their team.
At that time,
MajorDevTeam had no platform for presenting its plans — neither the site nor the blog. We agreed that when something is such that it would be possible to read and seriously evaluate its participation in the project, I will assume the modest role of describing the goals and objectives of the development team, taking into account the fact that the commercial benefit at the moment they don't set themselves a goal.
The most important question was the following - there are already a sufficient number of communities in the world, such as Mer, Tizen, Jolla, Open webOS, WebOSx, in which their plans are approximately the same as those of MajorDevTeam. To this, one of the group members responds literally as follows: “
Everyone has a primitive desire to“ develop the project ”without a specific direction. If you make a cut of these projects, you can see that none of them have achieved anything (did not). We Of course, we will cooperate with them (use their best practices) and our source codes will be available to everyone . "
The main plans of the developers are as follows:
- Creating a social network of programmers (like SourceForge)
- Recycling the kernel and making drivers from OEM manufacturers
- Porting devices to market leaders Samsung and HTC
- Recycling UI (development launcher-a)
- Integration with social networks and services
- Development of a platform for developers (repository, market), for gamers (social network - the equivalent of GameCenter in iOS), as well as for fans of photos, video and music
- Development SDK based on QT (system development), Eclipse or MoSync (for development on html5)
- Development and implementation of cloud services for data synchronization
- FlashLoader development to simplify OS installation on devices
- Development of PC Suite-analogue for communications with a PC
- Attracting major players to the project (hp, AMD, etc.)
- Attracting public people working on MeeGo and webOS
- When everything starts and there is a time to develop a prototype, there are established contacts with Chinese manufacturers.
- And finally, all enthusiasts who show themselves during work will receive points convertible into money (this moment is being worked out)
')
In this regard, the project would be very interesting feedback from the participants of Habr and an objective assessment of the goals - their need, courage and, in fact, options for the practical application of the results in the future.
