Ukrainian police closed Demonoid

Ukrainian police closed one of the oldest torrent trackers in the world.
One of the world's oldest torrent trackers Demonoid, whose servers are located in Ukraine, has stopped working after inspections by law enforcement agencies. However, experts say that the site has a lot of spare servers, and the owners could easily restore it, but do not do it because of the aggravated struggle against piracy in the world.

In the middle of last week, investigators of the department for combating cybercrime of the GU MVD in Kiev conducted an inspection in the office of the hosting company ColoCall, which hosts the servers of one of the world's largest torrent trackers Demonoid. “The investigators copied all the information from the Demonoid servers and sealed them. The equipment itself was not confiscated, but now it does not work, and we were forced to terminate the contract with the site, ”said one of the managers of ColoCall on condition of anonymity.

Demonoid is one of the world's first torrent trackers. It was founded in 2003 - earlier than the popular services BitTorrent, The Pirate Bay and RuTracker.org (formerly - Torrents.ru). The site owners are still unknown, the founder's nickname is Deimos. The source of “Kommersant” in ColoCall also refused to name them, noting only that the management of the site is in Mexico. According to the Whois system, the domain name Demonoid.me is registered in Brazil. In 2010, the American Recording Association considered it the tenth largest site containing pirated content. As of May, Demonoid counted more than 378 thousand torrent files.

From myself, I note that Ukrainian users did not have access to Demonoid.com, from the very moment when the site moved to Ukraine.
