AT & T will stop supporting 2G networks in five years

Despite the fact that in some regions of the world you only have to dream of mobile communication, in the USA some companies are going to stop supporting 2G networks for five years. All this is done in order, so to speak, to make room for 4G. AT & T reported this on Friday.

According to the company's management plan, AT & T will stop working with 2G networks by January 1, 2017. The company will redistribute the range of frequencies used in such a way as to enhance support for 3G and 4G communications. To support the operation of 2G networks, considerable power is required, of course, and just this capacity is not enough for AT & T to improve the performance of new types of wireless communications.

About 12% of all contract subscribers of the company use devices that work with 2G networks. Within five years, these customers will be transferred to the 3G and 4G sector. Already, the number of subscribers purchasing mobile devices that support new wireless networks is growing, and significantly. Now the vast majority of AT & T subscribers (and some other US carriers) use devices with 3G network support.

To achieve its goal, the company has already stopped selling 2G models of mobile devices, both for contract subscribers and prepaid subscribers.

Probably, other US telecom operators (and Europe too) will use a similar scenario in their future work.
