Cuts Technet Subscriptions

Alas, but since July 16, Technet Standard and Technet Professional subscriptions have lost significantly in value. It is strange that no one was outraged by such an act. Here is what Microsoft writes in its deeply hidden announcement:

What changes did Microsoft make to TechNet subscriptions in July 2012?

On July 16, Microsoft made changes to TechNet subscriptions to better reflect the purpose of the program — helping IT professionals assess current Microsoft software — and protect the integrity of a subscription from unsupported use. As part of this change, we performed the following:

1) Reduced the volume and complexity of the user agreement.

2) Made use of Microsoft software and other subscription benefits available only for a 12 month subscription period.

3) Updated the list of products available for download as follows:

- Removed unnecessary and duplicate copies of products. For example: the entire Office package will be available for download, rather than individual Office products, such as Outlook, Publisher, etc.

- Removed products not intended for use in IT-managed work environments. For example: Windows XP Home Edition.

- Removed products that are no longer covered by extended support through the Microsoft Product Support Lifecycle.

4) Standardized restrictions on receiving product keys in 24 hours for all programs and levels of benefits up to ten (10).

No email alerts. mail about future changes have been reported, which is very ugly.

Almost from the list of available keys for subscribers disappeared, as described above, almost all of the individual products from Office, for example Access 2007-2010, Outlook 2007-2010; from Windows 7, only Windows 7 Professional remained, although the Ultimate version contains a lot of functions for corporate clients; Windows XP also remained only in the Professional edition. Now these products hang in the list of available keys with a note that 0 keys from 0 are available.

In general, a huge number of keys disappeared. Products are still available for download, but I think this is temporary. But the most annoying thing is that the subscription price remains the same!

So far, the question has remained open with the keys to excluded products that were requested before making changes. Support request sent, but no response yet.

A new list of products available under the updated terms of Technet subscriptions can be downloaded here .
