Sony Smart Headset Mini Headset Review

In addition to the line of smartphones, every year, Sony releases a number of interesting and practical accessories in the Smart Extras lineup - “smart add-ons”. In this short review I will talk about one of them - a Sony Smart Headset wired headset with a smart key.

Packaging

The headset comes in a stylish package that is designed to “sell” them even on the counter: a vertical box with a transparent “window” demonstrates the Smart Headset like an exhibit at some exhibition of modern technologies.

Through the transparent plastic, we see a freakishly fixed headset, and behind it, against the background, something like a stiffener — a transparent cone filled with rubber inserts.

This construction is reliably assembled, so that the headphones from the “pedestal” had to be cut with scissors so as not to tear anything there.

In the cone - 16 rubber liners, eight different colors.

In my case - white and orange, in other trim levels it could be black and white, for example.

Design and ergonomics

The main feature of the Sony Smart Headset is, of course, the “un-entangled” flat wire a la spaghetti. What I can’t take away from him - I think, for the first time, I dealt with such a wire - it really does not tangle. The disadvantages of this solution include the high windage of such a cord - with a strong wind, the headphones literally pull out of the ears.

Headphones with such a wire look “more expensive” than usual in the case of the Smart Headset, this impression is also affected by the small presence of aluminum in the design - at the base of the “ears”.

Another feature is the Smart Headset in the “smart” key located at the bottom of the headset control panel. When you first press it, you are invited to select an application that will be launched by pressing the smart button in the future. Well, the choice is to start recording audio notes in Evernote or launch TrackID, a utility for determining the name and artist of the track being played.

The rest of the set of buttons is standard - two volume buttons and a pause / rewind button. Double tap to fast forward and triple backward. Once - pause or reset / receive an incoming call.

On the back of the console is a microphone. The location of the headphones is fixed with a clip for attaching to clothes.

It is located well - when wearing headphones it is exactly at the level of the mouth. Shouting, or bringing a microphone to your lips, as special agents like in a movie, do not have to do.

However, in the Smart Headset there is no noise cancellation system - in windy weather this is a minus. In these cases, the microphone still has to close the palm.

Walking with the Smart Headset for several weeks, I came to the conclusion that it would be nice to use buttons of different geometric shapes, since choose the right round button of the four available on the go is difficult. However, over time, you remember their location, of course.

User experience

The convenience of the headset is not necessary to explain. The difference between the Smart Headset and the standard headphones for Sony smartphones that come with them is bundled - first and foremost in the presence of the remote control at the standard 3.5 mm jack. Therefore, the Smart Headset will only work with Sony's 2012 Xperia smartphones. Earlier models (read - Sony Ericsson) is designed LiveSound headset. Compatibility with other brands of smartphones - Blackberry, HTC, Samsung - can be viewed on the official website.

Sound quality, not being an audiophile, I can not paint. I will say simply: better. Better than stock headphones - which, however, is not surprising. The sound quality is on par with other brands at the same price. Stylish design and the presence of a remote control - an advantage.

Since I use the phone most of the time as a player, the convenience of remote control is difficult to overestimate. In winter, when to reach into the pocket behind the phone, especially if it broke, it will be an even more significant advantage.

Summary

remote control
disconnected wire
Smart key

no noise cancellation
identical remote buttons

Good "ears" for a smartphone - this is a must have. A Smart Headset is a good option for this very have.
