Almost immediately after the RTM version of the new Windows 8 was sent to print, it became known that the German company Metro AG had stated its claims to the code name of the user interface in the operating system.
The Verge observers claim that they have a document at their disposal for internal use by Microsoft, which states that “during the discussion with an important European partner”, it was decided to abandon the name “Metro” in the interface of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 systems - and Company employees must immediately stop using this word in public documents and statements regarding Microsoft products.
It also follows from the above source that Microsoft is actively seeking a new brand name for using and describing the original system interface - so far, among the possible options, it is proposed to use the “Windows 8 Style UI”.

However, Microsoft denies any connection between the claims of Metro AG and the change of brands of its flagship products. The company says that “Metro was used as a code technical name, not a commercial one”, however, such a rush immediately after the release of the RTM version of Windows 8 looks at least suspicious.
