Rackspace has updated its cloud

Exactly 2 years ago, in July 2010, the company Rackspace together with NASA announced the opening of the source codes of their projects (Rackspace Cloud Files and Nebula, respectively), which became the basis for the open cloud operating system OpenStack. During this time, nearly two hundred companies have joined the initiative, including such giants as Akamai, AT & T, Dell, IBM, HP and Canonical.

Many companies already use OpenStack in their clouds (for example, Deutsche Telekom, in Russia - Selectel ), now the company itself has announced the transfer of its cloud infrastructure to an open platform (or rather, from August 1).

The new generation of cloud infrastructure, Rackspace, provides the ability for customers not to become attached to a specific cloud solution provider and, if necessary, quickly switch from one OpenStack cloud to another. Actually, this is the main advantage of the OpenStack platform as such - the possibility of choosing and smoothly moving between hosting providers. In addition, an increase in the speed of the API and the processes of creating and scaling servers is announced. The president of Rackspace in his blog especially emphasizes the advantage of an open platform as the ability to quickly implement new cloud computing solutions at the expense of an active and fast-growing community.

The updated cloud was named “Open Cloud” and a new control panel. To date, innovations have touched only American data centers, all the rest are planned to be updated soon.
