Recently I read an article by the well-known in the debianchik and ubuntushnikov circles
virens blogger pro realtime kernel. The original is
here .
I was interested in this topic, because the problems of poor system responsiveness under heavy loads are also peculiar to my laptop.
But then another side to solve the problem appeared - I really didn’t want to apply patches and rebuild the kernel. Here and laziness is mixed up, and the reluctance to kill the n-th amount of time to download, unpack, use, build, and most importantly - fix errors in their build.
But RT-core would be desirable. This morning I got the idea of digging into the repositories of Ubunt (I have 7.10 beta), and, oh, a miracle! A linux-image-rt meta-package was found, which depended on the kernel image itself and all the necessary modules. Everything downloaded, installed, immediately after the reboot started to play and began to play. The uname -a command returns:
Linux som32-laptop 2.6.22-13-rt # 1 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Oct 4 19:19:06 GMT 2007 i686 GNU / Linux
But the main thing: I didn’t manage to make the music “stall”. Yes, and X's brakes are not observed at all.
Once again, I want to rejoice and thank Canonical and the whole community for the easy solution of most problems in Ubuntu.
