Cybersquatting in Asia is becoming more popular

According to the registrar of domain names, cybersquatting in Asia is becoming increasingly popular , largely due to the low cost of domain names.

For example, domains in the Chinese .cn zone are so inexpensive that they spawn cybersquatting growth, said IP Mirror managing director Janna Lam of the Singapore company. In fact, IP Mirror currently purchases these domain names from the Chinese registrar CNNIC.net.cn at such low rates that the Singapore registrar is able to provide domains in the .cn zone for less than $ 3 per year.

Lam said that “cybersquatting has always been a [global] trend, and is now making up for lost time in Asia,” indicating that relatively low prices for domain names are the main reason for growth.

Zhanna Lam says that the cybersquatting phenomenon is global, and in practice cybersquatting is especially flourishing in the domain zones of China (.cn), India (.in) and South Korea (.kr). And this is not surprising, because the rule here is that the cheaper domain names are in the zone, the more attractive it looks to cybersquatters.

Zhanna says that SGNIC - the main domain registrar of Singapore - does not support the sale of domain names and monitors the .sg domains, but in many other countries, registrars are not so serious about the problem of cybersquatting. But the only solution to the problem of cybersquatting (except for continuous monitoring of domain names) Lam considers active protection of domain names that are important for business (for example, domain names containing product names or company names in the title).
