“Symfony + Ultimate Frisbee” or how Lucas Smith’s trip to Ukraine has changed thanks to Siclum

Little-known sports, like non-mainstream technologies and frameworks, unite people around them much stronger than their more popular counterparts. And to be a part of one or another subculture or an evangelist of such technology is nice - virtual friends from all over the world will make traveling much more interesting.

In one of the July holidays in Odessa, the Ultimate Frisbee Beach Championship of Ukraine took place - this is, at first glance, an event little known to ordinary people and led Lukas (Lukas Kahwe Smith) to Ukraine according to the Symfony Community Awards 2011 " . Being a rather sociable and active networker, Lukas gladly agreed to combine the pleasant with the more pleasant - and shared his technical knowledge with the people of Kiev and Odesa at Ciklum Speakers' Corner.

Lucas's technical biography is rich enough: he was the co-release manager of PHP 5.3 . Now he is one of the developers of Symfony2, PHPCR / Jackalope and also a contributor to Doctrine and other open source projects. For many years he has been speaking at conferences around the world with an enviable frequency - but even in this he is a real innovator. In recent years, he has not used slides in his speeches. The real-time code located in gitbub and the instant display of the result in the browser with detailed commentary - its choice of format for a technical audience.

This is how events took place in Siklum on July 6 in Odessa and on July 10 in Kiev. And what is the result? A great. More than 120 people who attended the event in Kiev were in good shape throughout the evening, and Lucas received such a drive from the public that instead of the standard hour-long training, he showed new chips for more than 2 hours and answered questions from the Ukrainian Symfony community. The participants were excited, picked up the initiative and quickly organized an after-party with Lucas to discuss everything from a symphony to a frisbee. Siclum believes in just such a free exchange of knowledge and actively supports the IT community in Ukraine and the near abroad, regularly providing a platform for their development and inviting interesting and bright speakers to share experience and knowledge.

Lucas continued his frisbee-way to Russia to participate in the next championship. Let no other meetings with the Symfony community on this trip are planned - great impressions and a mass of new acquaintances will be a fair wind for new victories.
