In February of this year, the Supreme Court of Sweden put an end to the case of The Pirate Bay. In particular, the owners of Pirate Bay are obliged to pay 550,000 euros to musicians and recording companies in compensation for damages. In the foreseeable future, the payment of this amount is unlikely, since TPB co-founder Peter Sunde and his team do not have any significant assets in Sweden. But even if they succeed in knocking out at least something from them, the authors will still not receive a penny.
The International Federation of the Producers of Phonograms (IFPI) is not going to share the booty with the authors. Despite the fact that the amount of half a million euros was carefully calculated during the trial on the basis of assessing the damage to specific authors due to downloading specific files, all the money that can be collected will be spent on further struggle against piracy. This is evidenced by an unpublished official
document that fell into the hands of the Torrent Freak publication.
Peter Sunde argues that this is a common practice of copyright organizations. As far as he knows, it has not yet been the case that at least part of the money sucked from the pirates of the RIAA and IFPI fell into the hands of the authors. “
They’ll rather buy cocaine for this money than share it with authors who defend ’, ”says Sunde.
According to Torrent Freak, the RIAA organization after the judicial victory over LimeWire also
showed no desire to share . The court then counted 105 million dollars in damage. Curiously, the absurd amount of $ 72
trillion initially appeared in the RIAA lawsuit.
