Google and IBM are building a network of data centers

Google and IBM announced a joint project to build several data centers that will be integrated into the computing network infrastructure for US universities. It is assumed that this “distributed supercomputer” will be used in university research and other research projects.

According to information leaked to the press, Google is already building a data center in an unnamed place, where by the end of the year there will be “more than 1600 processors” ). IBM is also building a data center. Both companies have agreed to allocate $ 30 million for this project over two years. An interesting fact: the NY Times newspaper reports that the data centers will use the "open source version of software from Google data centers."

According to experts, the "university" specialization of data centers should not be misleading. In fact, IBM and Google are interested in building a global computing platform for web-based software. It is very good that universities are connected to this process.
