Autonomous router for 4G Megaphone

Good afternoon, colleagues!

It all started with the fact that I ordered a tablet for one of the shares of Tuguezo . According to the specification, the tablet supports an external 3G, but I did not find information on whether it will work with 4G-modem from Megaphone. The tablet is still on the way - but I'm already thinking about how to make friends with a 4G-network from Megaphone. I offer a solution to your attention.

My solution is a bundle of three components:
  1. 4G-modem from Megaphone
  2. ASUS WL-330N3G miniature router
  3. Portable Charger IconBIT FTB5000U

The network has information that MegaFon's modem (nee HUAWEI E392) is well-connected with Zyxel Keenetic, TP-LINK TL-MR3020, DLink DIR-620 routers. There was no sensible information about the router from Asus, in a couple of places I saw a mention that it was not possible to make friends with them. But to my surprise, after I assembled the whole structure, I connected the cord from the laptop to the router and set up 3G sharing - it all worked right away. And the modem turned on exactly 4G (I was afraid that it would not work above 3G).

Today, when I decided to repeat the experiment, another circumstance was discovered. The design does not want to work if a standard battery cord is used to supply power to the router. When you turn on the router starts to initialize, but as soon as it comes to turning on Wi-Fi - everything turns off. When I took the cord from the HTC charger, it all worked. The second option is to make the design work from a regular lace - first connect the router to the battery, then, when the Wi-Fi LED lights up, connect the modem. Apparently, such a sequence is due to the fact that the battery does not provide the peak current for the design - it gives only 1A, and the router can consume up to 2A.

Another little detail. At the router from the side of the connectors, the case has a small rim, as a result, neither the adapter from the standard battery cord nor the wire from HTC all the way into the connector. However, it is easy to fix by slightly cutting either the side or the plug. I cut the plug - I do not want to spoil the appearance of the warranty router.

Of the drawbacks of the design, I can note 250-300 grams of weight and the fact that the modem under load decently warms, so using the design on the way, including and putting it in the bag, can be unsafe. The advantages include the fact that all components can be used both together and separately.

In the disassembled state, the entire set easily fits in a bag that comes with a battery.
