Addresses are usually mentioned in regional news: this could be, for example, the construction of a new house, a street concert or an accident. You can see how the binding of the event to the map works in the news of Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kiev and other regions. In total, 10 cities are being processed.
“From a technological point of view, the interesting task was to determine the city to which the address mentioned in the news belongs. The fact is that the authors of news reports rarely write the city directly next to the street, - said Lev Gershenzon, the leading developer of Yandex. “To solve this task, we had to select all the names of settlements from each news item, and then choose the most relevant one - depending on the number of entries in the document, on the location in the document, etc.”.
