The latest nightly build (
download ) of KHTML WebKit engine (which is used in Safari)
supports @ font-face rules, so Opera, the previously only browser (with its own engine) that supports these rules, is no longer alone. This means that WebKit now has the necessary functionality for loading fonts indicated in CSS.
Web design has always had a problem with restrictions on the choice of fonts that can be used. Now using @ font-face safe fonts can be used in WebKit - this will allow web designers to use fonts that the browser will download from the web to display text already with their use. Of course, at the same time, the web designer (or his customer) should have the right to distribute these fonts.
By the way, it is quite possible that Apple will add this assembly to Leopard, which is about to go to print.
