Silent Code - in August, the world will see a comprehensive security system for negotiations for mobile devices

At the moment, everyone who wishes is given the opportunity to test Silent Circle for free. To do this, simply send an application with an email address. The project was developed for about 7 years.

Project ideologists are:

- Phil Zimmermann (creator of PGP);

- Mike Janke (formerly Navy Seals unit sniper in the US Navy);

- Vic Hyder (commander of the US Navy Marine Corps);

- Jon Callas (co-founder of PGP Corporation, Entrust CTO).

')

Application features will allow you to organize encryption of voice, video and text information (email, SMS, IM, etc.). The application is adapted to all modern mobile platforms, including Android and Apple iOS. One of the most interesting features of the Silent Code is the organization of secure video conferencing.

Initially, the idea was associated with the use of such technologies in the service of the military, when soldiers need to contact their families and loved ones, while ensuring the reliability and security of negotiations. The US government is concerned about the emergence of such an application for mere mortals, primarily because the use of the Silent Code will complicate the interception of data for operational search activities, as defined by the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) .

As far as is known, the main part of the work on encoding and decoding information in a secure Silent Circle communication channel (the name can be translated as “quiet vicious circle”) is taken over by client software. At the same time, there is a need for a small support from the servers, which are engaged in establishing communication between clients and traffic redirection.

After studying national privacy laws in different countries, Silent Circle chose three countries to host their communications servers: Switzerland, Iceland and Canada. As a result, Canada was chosen, since it was easiest for developers to get to it.

Estimated cost of the application - only $ 20.

The official release is scheduled for September 2012, however, in August, after passing a closed beta test, everyone will be able to familiarize themselves with the version open for use.

PS 1 It is noteworthy that during his military career, Mike Janke received many injuries - a total of 312 stitches were laid on him, 17 bones were broken, both knees were injured, and he still had a crocodile bite scar. In addition, he is known as an ardent privacy advocate and author of the popular self-motivating book Take Control.

PS 2 Earlier, Phil Zimmerman launched a similar project, which aims to protect VoIP-negotiations, - http://zfoneproject.com/ . The use of Zphone is possible exclusively as an add-on to the Voip client, for developers there is its own API .
