Google launches super fast internet project July 26

Announced in 2010, the project of search giant Google Fiber, which provides for the residents of the city of Kansas City access to the Internet at a speed of 1 Gb / c starts July 26 - the announcement of this event appeared on the official website of Fiber .

A pilot broadband Internet project using fiber-optic communications was officially presented to the public on March 30 last year, when it became known that one of two cities with the same Kansas City name — the first from Kansas and the second from Missouri — would have ultrafast access to the network first. Given the fact that the average Internet speed among households in the US is 4 Mb / s, the words "Google Fiber provides speed ... more than 100 times faster than most Americans have today."

Google does not report the project cost for the company - according to a number of information from outside sources, connecting one household to the Google Fiber network should cost about $ 5,000 on average, thus giving the total cost of deploying client connection for city residents of 440 square meters. km and a population of 145,000 is about $ 1.1 billion.

It is curious that last year Google claimed that the connection would be free for residents for a whole year - now, apparently, the search giant's plans have changed: access to the network at a speed of 1 Gb / c will be provided at a “competitive” price.
