Openmoko closes VID / PID to open projects for free

The upcoming Openmoko open-air smartphone project in 2008 finally rested in Bose. Due to the fact that the development plans of the administration are no longer included in the administration’s plans, they decided to distribute VID / PID (Vendor ID and Product ID) pairs to anyone who asked for it and send a link to their open source project.
It is probably worth recalling that the use of a VID / PID pair in the device descriptor is prescribed by the USB specification, according to which this pair must be unique for each device. Previously, if you did not have money for a full-fledged VID pool ( 2000-4000 USD ), you could buy such a pair from an intermediary company that owns its own Vendor ID. Since 2010, the consortium has tightened regulations for such sub-sales, and I don’t know how things are today.

In fact, this is not the latest news, but today, looking at the list, I noticed that in a couple of months the guys distributed less than a dozen pairs, and I decided to “tell the peasants” - probably someone will come in handy.
