Berlin resident, film director
Sam Muirhead (Sam Muirhead) from August 1, 2012 will begin a unique experiment: he is going to
live for a year on Open Source . It’s not just that he will change his Mac to a Linux machine, but instead of using Final Cut Pro, he will start using Novacut. The experiment goes much further.
Sam Myrhead will live in a house built on an Open Source design, and use household items, also made in the framework of Open Source projects: jeans, mobile phone, beer and toothbrush. Moreover, the sources of livelihood for a 28-year-old artist will be donations from a sympathetic public, as is customary in these OS-projects. Fundraising has already begun on IndieGoGo, the more funds collected - the more interesting the experiment will be (although, maybe the other way around).
True, on the way of the 28-year-old experimenter faces a number of difficulties. For example, you need to find a replacement for your camcorder that encodes video with the H.264 proprietary codec. You need to find a video camera that can save video to the Ogg container, or somehow change the firmware for this model.
To overcome the difficulties, Murder was promised to help the hacker community of Berlin, including members of the MakerLab laboratory, where open source activists make prototypes of their own devices and exchange products. The position of the Pirate Party in Berlin is also very strong, so Myrhead even has support in the local parliament.

Murhad promises to share all his achievements with the community, posting videos on the Internet every week.
