According
to The Verge portal, several former Nokia employees from among the developers of the MeeGo project decided to “reanimate” the mobile operating system sent to the dustbin of history by the management of Stephen Elop. The association was founded in the fall of 2011 under the name
Jolla Ltd. . By May 2012, Jolla was joined by many experts who participated in the development of Maemo and MeeGo, including Marc Dillon, the former leading Linux developer at Nokia.
The new company intends to develop a new operating system based on MeeGo using the Qt framework. Jolla executives claim that they have qualified developers, and also have the support of investors. In the upcoming announcements, the company intends to disclose the details of the new system, as well as announce a partnership for the development of devices.
You can learn more about the company on
LinkedIn page , and the latest news will be broadcast on
Twitter , where you can chat with developers. Mark Dillon, as the project leader,
announced that there are vacancies for MeeGo, Linux and Qt specialists.
It is worth noting that the idea to revive MeeGo is being harbored not only by Nokia developers, but also by Intel Corporation, which remained at the back of the trough with the operating system, but without partners. Intel plans are currently being implemented in the Tizen project, while Jolla still intends to continue developing the Harmattan concept.
